Did you know that our Smokey the Bear that stands in front of Cal Fire’s Cloverdale headquarters, was created by woodcarver Mark Colp of Wooden Creations? Mark lives in Lakeport and created the artwork out of an old dead pine tree that was in front of Cal Fire on Cloverdale Blvd. Cal Fire Cloverdale Fire Captain Scott Rohrs’ goal was to honor the past firefighters and have a landmark for our community.
Using a chain saw, Mark combined machine precision and wood carving artistry to create our Smokey the Bear. From a 60 foot tree, this 11 foot folk art sculpture greets all who pass by. Be sure to wave to Smokey the Bear the next time you drive by and appreciate the artistry that created him for our community to enjoy.
