This picture of Courtney was taken at 8th grade promotion and was the last carefree day of her life. Her life fell apart a few days later with a cancer diagnosis…Ewing’s Sarcoma. Who had ever heard of such a thing?
On this 15th anniversary, we would like to share a few borrowed and slightly altered lines from Joni Mitchell….
Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, we’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone
So many things we would have done, but clouds got in our way
Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say, “We love you” right out loud
Schemes and dreams and circus crowds, we’ve looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say we’ve changed
But something’s lost but something’s gained in living every day
We’ve looked at life from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions we recall, we really don’t know life at all.
To everyone who’s read this, we sincerely wish you a life filled with love, harmony, gratitude, peace, joy, mirth, kindness and awe. We will be planting a Coffee Berry at the Cloverdale River Park on January 5th, 2023. Please feel free to join us.
It has been a long fifteen years of missing you, Courtney Jade Davis
