Well as if Covid and back to school weren’t enough, Mother Nature gifted us with an earlier than expected fire crisis to once again test nerves and increase anxiety. Some things are simply out of our control. However, there are some creative things we can do to be more prepared for what will continue to rear its head and help us navigate in times of stress.

Most of us by now have a pile by the door “in case” we need to evacuate which is fine, but as the season is far from over I am offering up an idea to lessen the continual visual reminder that our lives are disrupted. This idea is something that is designed to live in plain sight year round, something pleasing to the eye that hides within its walls: extra keys, copies of financial documents & official MAP of where your evacuation items are stored on your property (garage/closets/etc.).

For myself it’s my elephant stool that lives next to my bed where I read; inside extra keys, copies of important info and list of “if panic arises and brain freezes, here is where it is” list. The next box down is a crate I added a lid with hinges and wheels for my mom that blends in with the style of her home. The chest at the bottom can hold multiple backpacks and food and water and has wheels so can be easily moved if needed.
