Doris Jean Julius was a strong, courageous, caring and faithful mother. She passed away suddenly on March 27th 2021 in Cloverdale, California at the age of 90.
Doris was born to Otto and Eva Beck in Anaconda Montana on Feb 13th 1931. She graduated from Anaconda High School in June of 1949. In 1965 she moved with her family to California. Doris began her career as a maid in a convalescent hospital and through hard work, dedication and talent rose to be the head of the purchasing department at Ames Research Center in Mountain View California, a division of NASA. In 1986 she received the distinguished service award from NASA because of her contributions to the Apollo missions, the Space shuttle program, and the development of vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
Doris retired from NASA in 1988 and moved to Cloverdale California with her 2nd husband, Bob Julius, who in 2012 proceeded her in death.
She is survived by her four children, Lawrence (Melinda) Grimes, James Grimes, Melonie (Al) Delsid, and Daniel (Carol) Grimes as well as 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris had a strong Christian faith which carried her through the trials of life and informed her loving and caring motherhood. Doris had a note in her bible written in the margins of Samuel 1 saying “Mothers can be priests. Hannah knew the words of the Lord she was to give to her children. If a mother has faith, she can teach hope”. Doris’ proudest accomplishment was being a woman who not only taught, but exemplified, hope, love, and graciousness to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family will miss her guidance and love.
“If we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s” (Romans 14:8). No matter how much we miss her, Doris Julius was, and always will be, the Lord’s.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Villas Assisted Living in Cloverdale for the compassionate care they provided to Doris in her final years. A memorial service will be held May 25th, 2021 at 2:00pm at Fred Young Mortuary in Cloverdale.
