Peggy Eleanor Gunter (Lile), a native of Cloverdale, CA, succumbed at age 69 to Alzheimer’s disease on September 29.

Peggy was born on December 4,1954 and grew up on the family’s ranch outside of Cloverdale. She graduated from Cloverdale High School, attended Sonoma State University, and received her teaching credential from Dominican University of California.

She had a love of horses and participated in several gymkhanas as a teenager in Cloverdale. Teaching was also another passion, and she taught elementary grades in the Sebastopol school system. Peggy was known for her big smile and quick laugh. In 1974, Peggy married David Gunter, also of Cloverdale, and they raised three sons, horses, turkeys, rabbits, dogs, and cats on their property in Sebastopol.

Peggy is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, David Gunter; her children Seth Gunter (Chris), Daniel Gunter (Allison) and Evan Gunter (Michelle); seven grand-children; sister Wendy Harrison (Bruce) and brother Gene Lile (Polly). She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lile, and father, Vernon Lile.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on November 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hessel Church, located at 5060 Hessel Avenue, Sebastopol.
