Vernon Arthur Lile, native of Cloverdale, passed away Tuesday, November 15, age 90, following a long battle with cancer. Vern was born Nov.20,1931 and graduated from Cloverdale High School, where he starred in basketball and baseball. In 1951, Vern married Mary Kansala. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Cloverdale for almost 30 years, retiring as the Assistant Postmaster in 1980, and then he and his brother worked the family ranch in Cloverdale and cattle ranch in Northeastern California. Vern participated in Legion Baseball, City League basketball and softball and was active in coaching youth baseball, and enjoyed golf.
Vern was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lile, his brother, Francis Lile, and his parents, Bernard and Charlott Lile. He is survived by his children Wendy Harrison (Bruce), Gene Lile (Polly) and Peggy Gunter (David), five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
