From the Editor

When I was as a kid, summer officially began Memorial Day weekend (never mind when the Summer Solstice occurred) when our family would pile into the station wagon and drive from Fairfax to our summer cabin in Healdsburg every weekend until Labor Day. Summer days would be spent swimming in the river, eating popsicles and reading “Archie and Jughead” comic books and chewing Bazooka.

In the evening the family would gather around the kitchen table and play Monopoly or canasta and drink Hawaiian punch. There was no television in the cabin and no telephone. As night fell, my brother and I would go outside to the sleeping porch and fall asleep with the sound of the train rumbling through town in the distance. What are your summer memories? I hope they are as happy as mine.

I’ll see you around town!

Dana
