Airlines and airports are launching new technology that promises to ease the tension of waiting in snaking lines at the TSA checkpoint. The solution is Reserve by Clear. The program allows travelers to reserve a dedicated time to pass through a fast lane at the security checkpoint. To reserve their free spot, passengers simply go to Reserve by Clear’s site (https://www.clearme.com/reserve) to choose their airport and enter their flight details. Then, they choose a time to go through security that works with their schedule. Users will receive a confirmation email with a QR code. At the airport, travelers use the “Reserve” lane at the appointed time; security staff will scan the QR code and whisk them through the TSA line.

Reservations, based on availability, can be made up to 72 hours before departure. Reservation times will vary, but time slots are always at least 60 minutes before a domestic flight’s departure time and at least 75 minutes before an international flight. (The program is not available to TSA PreCheck or Clear Plus members.)

Reserve lanes are at the following airports:

• John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport, Terminal 4
• Los Angeles Intl. Airport, Terminals 7 and 8 (called LAX Fast Lane)
• Orlando Intl. Airport, East and West Checkpoints
• Newark Liberty Intl. Airport, Terminal A and B (called EWR Virtual Line)
• Seattle-Tacoma Intl. Airport, Checkpoint 3 and 5 (called SEA Spot Saver)
• Phoenix Sky-Harbor Intl. Airport, Terminal 3 and 4 operates from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Calgary Intl. Airport, Security D and E (called YYC Express)

Industry experts predict that travelers will see similar convenient technologies continue to roll out to more airports worldwide. “Allowing the passenger to be in control of their journey is the future of air transportation.

I am a 26.5 year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. My family and I moved to Cloverdale in 2017 and have been impressed with the small town feel. As a candidate for City Council, I would like to preserve that small town feel by ensuring our Law enforcement has community support, we conserve water as a community, and we use the revenue streams and tax dollars in the most efficient manner. Also, I believe Cloverdale would benefit from some enhancements to the downtown area. I would love to see Cloverdale become a sought after destination/town for business growth and tourism growth. As a City Council member, I would like to work closely with the community and City leadership to accomplish these goals. I believe a “boots on the ground” approach is the way to accomplish this.

Cloverdale Arts Alliance organizes tour of picturesque, 100-acre “sculpture ranch”

Tickets to tour the world-renown Oliver Ranch are now on sale through the Cloverdale Arts Alliance at: www.cloverdaleartsalliance.org.

Located in the heart of Sonoma County, overlooking the Alexander Valley, the Oliver Ranch is home to 18 remarkable site-specific sculptural installations, including Ann Hamilton’s The Tower, where commissioned dance, poetry, theater, and music performances take place.

From the ranch’s first sculpture, Shepherd’s Muse by Judith Shea, which was commissioned in 1985, Steve and Nancy Oliver were motivated by a love of art, a desire to support artists, and also a wish to circumvent the “business” of art. Disillusioned with valuation in the world of art collecting, the Oliver’s decided to commission site-specific installations that could not be moved, and therefore, neither bought nor sold, thus putting the focus on the art itself, not its assessment.

“Tours are offered only a few times each year to a limited number of people,” said CAA Executive Director, Mark Tharrington. “The Arts Alliance is thrilled to be chosen as the non-profit to organize and benefit from this one-of-a-kind, art-centric tour.”

The tour will be Sunday, October 29, 2022. The cost is $105 for Cloverdale Arts Alliance members and $115 for non-members. The tour will be led by Steve Oliver or a trained docent and covers approximately 2.5 miles and 600 feet in elevation change. The tour is not wheelchair accessible and comfortable walking shoes are essential. Participants will meet at 9:30am at the Remmel Road Park & Ride in Geyserville, then carpool to the Oliver Ranch.

Can we all take a moment and agree in a collective halleluyah that Fall has finally arrived? I think we can all agree that when the late summer heat wave hit last month, those with air conditioning were beyond grateful and those without deserve some sort of prize for surviving.
I think perhaps it is also that after the last two years of which many of us are still reeling that my inner child who loves Christmas has been rearing her head again desperately wanting attention; sorry little one…you must wait a bit longer. First, we must take the time to enjoy the blessed arrival of Fall!

October is classically the month my mom starts arriving home from her morning pup walk with handfuls of leaves to decorate and pay homage to her favorite season. This year I felt the tug towards that as well, but my practical side has always resisted due to their short life once picked. Googling about I ran across an article on how to make waxed Fall leaves, oh my!

What does one need to make this happen you ask? Leaves, paraffin wax and a crock pot (or warmer of some type). Could it be that simple? Yes. Paraffin wax or bee’s wax melted (not boiling) is perfect for dredging leaves through (once or twice) to preserve both color and form for several weeks! I will give a recommendation here as well that using clothespins to suspend leaves whilst drying helps to keep wax from settling into natural curves and looking clumpy. The soft texture once leaves dry is divine and as long as kept out of the sun to prevent the wax from remelting, will keep the vibrant colors of Fall alive until my inner child wins out and the explosion of Christmas takes over…
