Travel insurance claim denied?

Here’s how to turn a “no” into a “yes”. How travel insurance works – a “named perils” policy covers only what is written in the policy, but even when a peril isn’t named, there’s still some wiggle room. Travel insurance companies usually assign appeals to a senior adjuster. That person will carefully review the claim to ensure the initial adjuster didn’t overlook anything. If your claim is denied review your policy to find out if it made a mistake. Read the policy carefully.

Sometimes, a travel insurance company will list the reason for the denial. “No” doesn’t always mean no. Take your appeal to the next level. Enlist the help of the insurance agent or travel agent who sold the policy. Agents can often act as intermediaries when something goes wrong with a policy.

Insurance commissioner

He or she may be able to help if your insurance company rejected your claim for no good reason.

Small claims court

You don’t need to hire an attorney to go to small claims court, but there’s a limit on the claim amount. This is often your last resort. If your agent or insurance company prevails in small claims court, that’s it.

A consumer advocate

A third party may be able to help you get a claim honored, depending on the type of claim and the advocate.

Ernest Nicholas Frandsen passed away on Wednesday, January 18th after a sudden decline in health caused by pneumonia and cancer. He was vibrant and physically active until December 29th. At age 92, he loved to shop, read, go out to dinner with family and friends, watch movies, decorate, give See’s candy, drive downtown, buy and give flowers, visit grand and great-grandchildren, catch up on the family news and share conversation with everyone in the community. Ernie lived a long and happy life, and he will be missed by the multitude of people who had the good fortune to meet him.

Ernie was born on Easter, April 20, 1930. He met his future wife, Marilyn June Watkins, while attending Healdsburg
High School. They married in 1950 and had four children. Ernie owned The Redwood Market grocery store in
Healdsburg until 1960. Later, he owned Fred Young & Company Mortuaries in Healdsburg and Cloverdale.
Ernie retired in 1997. After he lost Marilyn in 1999, he spent his time with family, Kiwanis, church, and “the kids”
(classmates from high school). He traveled to Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and Hawaii. He
donated generously to Jefferson Elementary School in Cloverdale, the ICF, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and many other organizations and people in the community. Ernie will be remembered for his generosity, good will, and happy attitude. He retained his sharp mental faculties and wit until the last moments of his life.

Ernie is survived by his daughters Claudia Jean Frandsen, Marjorie Ann Mielke (Roy Glassett), Elaine Marie Sutton (Mike), and Rebecca Lyn Sutton (Dave). His grandchildren Emily Austin (Josh), Amanda Gulsrud (Erik), Meagan Mielke, Samuel Mielke, Joshua Sutton (Lindsay), Tobin Sutton, Zachary Sutton (Janine), Nathaniel Sutton (Melissa), Hannah Sutton, Maxwell Sutton (Marguerite) and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, sister Elizabeth (Frandsen) VanBuren, granddaughter Dorothy Sutton, and his parents, Ernest W. and Elizabeth Frandsen. Also, his grandparents, Minna and Charles Frandsen, who were Ernie’s greatest loving guides, role models, and inspiration throughout his life.

Ernie’s memorial will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1402 University St., Healdsburg, on Saturday,
February 4th at 11:00 a.m.

Please donate in Ernest N. Frandsen’s name to any of the charities listed below: Cloverdale Kiwanis, ICF at St. John’s Catholic Church in Healdsburg, the Healdsburg Museum, or your favorite charity that benefits children.

David Stapp, loving husband and father, fell asleep in death on January 11th, 2023. He was preceded by his devoted wife Marilynn in September 2016.

Dave was raised in beautiful Paradise, CA as the middle child of three. He found life to be an adventure, enjoying camping, traveling, skiing, and motorcycles. Dave multiplied his joy when he married Marilynn Ehle in June 1970. A position as Manager of Shop’n’Save (later Clover Market) brought them to Cloverdale in 1973.

Many in the Community got to know the bounce in his step and the smile in his blue eyes as worked there with him. In 1975 they welcomed their only daughter Heather (Cleveland) into the world.

Dave and his family came to love and cherish so many friends in the Cloverdale community and especially in our beloved congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The list can’t be contained on these pages! That’s why we warmly invite all that shared this journey to join in remembrance of Dave’s beautiful life on February 11th, 2023 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Dutcher Creek Road at 2:00pm.

Reception to follow.
